No more blonde!

So I've been thinking for the last couple of weeks that I needed a change...just a small one. And so I dyed my hair...! My hair lady calls it "chocolate topaz" and says it will pretty much be all gone in a couple of months, so I can go back to blonde for the wedding, but for the time being, I'm a brunette!

to see...or not to see?

So I was originally considering getting contacts next month when I go for my annual vision appointment, so that I could see everyone at the wedding...but I've never worn contacts, and I was getting nervous about doing that, so I came up with another idea...why not just wear really pretty sparkly glasses at the reception so that I know who everyone is that is coming up and talking to me?? I'd like some like the ones above (these are bit pricey!) so I'm gonna keep looking, but what does everyone think??

No breaker for you...

Here's another installment of "living with a boy" and I'm finding out that for the last 29 years, there's no way that David was actually capable of living without my presence, and I'm really not sure how he survived... :)

Yesterday morning, I had the space heater going in the den when David decided to iron (see he at least does that!), and I kinda had a sneaking suspicion the breaker was going to blow...and it did. With that, he turned to me with a dumbfounded expression like "what'd I break? And how are you going to fix it?" So I told him, "you need to go and flip the switch on the breaker." So off he goes. As if he knew what he was doing. But he was headed first in the wrong direction.

After I corrected him and sent him to the closet in the spare bedroom, I waited for about 3 minutes. Nothing. No heater. No noise at all coming from the spare bedroom closet. I knew what was probably going on. David's not real great with well, anything like this, so I had a feeling he was standing in front of the breaker box, confused, wanting to fix this, but instead, stood there trying to figure out what to do.

After a few minutes, and still nothing, he walks back into the den all proud and smiling. "Is it back on yet?" he asks. Uh, no. So I go look at it, and come to find out, he hadn't switched anything. I can see the switch that needs to be flipped, plain as day (it actually turns red, bright red, to alert us which one is off).

I showed him this, flipped the switch, and asked what he had done to think that the power would be back on. To which he replied, "oh nothing. I just wanted you to come and do it."

Christmas at the Phi Mu

I had to go over to the Phi Mu house on Saturday for officer training, and thought I'd take some pictures of the Christmas decorations...Penny Cupp hired her interior decorator from Atlanta to come in and do these decorations...and all I have to say is wow. (the girls call the one in the foyer the "showgirl tree") It's a little much, but it really is pretty in person.

Living with a boy...part two...

So I've decided I'm going to write a book...and I'm going to call it "Living with a boy" and pretty much give details on the stupid crap I have to learn to adjust to...David is aware that he is the topic of such book, and I will allow him to read it only when it's done and he will then have to acknowledge that he can be an idiot... :) I will begin this book right here on the blog (see "Living with a boy" a post I did earlier for what may be the first chapter of the book...)

So with that in mind, here's the latest "living with a boy" entry:

I asked David to rake the leaves from the flower bed cause they were getting pretty piled up behind the skimpy little bushes and looking kinda trashy. I hate leaves. And I hate them more so when they are making my cute little house look trashy.

So with his OU work gloves on, a couple of trash bags, and the rake, he went to work.

I went outside to check on his progress at one point, and noticed that he was not using the rake.

He was picking up the leaves from behind the bush. Individually. And then putting them into the trash bag.

When I inquired of his odd behavior, he replied, "I tried it with the rake. But it wasn't getting them all."

Okay. Fair enough. I guess.

I then grabbed the rake, stuck it behind the little bush, and pulled out the entire pile of leaves in one action.

With a look of complete surprise and confusion at the same time, he then said, "Oh! That's how you get them?"

I don't want to know how he had used the rake before I got out there...

Fo Real Cards...'s my actual Christmas cards...

with my own poem on the inside:

At this time of year
it is evidently clear
our Christmas wish list to Santa
will fall on deaf ears.

So with that in mind
you may be hard pressed to find
either one of us
without a couple of cold beers.

Here's to getting what you want this Christmas.

Coming soon (hopefully! once I can get them ordered and get them here first!) to a mailbox near you...

Christmas cards?

Considering one of these for a Christmas card... :)
I woke from a nap the other day to find the kitties on the bed next to me like this. Couldn't help it...had to take a picture :)

Giving thanks

So I decided to think of a few things I'm thankful for (I mean, Thanksgiving IS in a couple of days and all...). It's been a rough couple of months with a few things, and sometimes I need to put it back in to perspective. So here goes:

• I get to work on the OSU campus. This really is one of my most favorite places to be, and I'm truly thankful that currently, I get to work in such a beautiful environment.

• Now I may be a little premature on this and really regret saying anything at all this time next week, but I'm currently up for my absolute dream job (Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs) at OSU. I'll know for sure next week (or so they say!) but it's really exciting considering I've been working toward this goal for six years now. Think good thoughts and prayers for me!

• I'm a season ticket holder for OSU football and women's basketball.

• In the last year alone, I've been able to travel to some pretty amazing places:
Bamberg, Germany

Seattle, WA

Cuchara, CO

• I'm a sucker for Becky's baby, Gus

• I love my siblings and their spouses (or future spouse I should say for Matthew). And just think, twenty years ago, I couldn't stand the little boogers...

• I get to marry a pretty awesome guy too... :)

So I've rambled enough, and I guess it's pretty apparent that I have much to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Living with a boy...

So as most of you know, David has now completely moved in with me in Stillwater...and my life has been completely turned upside down in the past couple of months, but hey, we're making it work...! Things I did not consider though when living with a boy:

(1) Cleaning up the kitchen...One night, I made manicotti. I apparently spilled some marinara sauce on the white stove, but didn't notice. David says "you cook, I clean" so I let him do that. The next day, I'm going to start dinner, when I notice the marinara on the stove, obviously from the night before. David's standing right behind me when I notice it and he says: "Yeah, I saw that today." Seriously?? If ya saw it, why didn't you clean it then?? Gah, boys...

(2) Hears, but never really listens...I have a conference at UCO that I'm going to, and my plan was, and I told him this probably 42 times, to spend the night at my mom's the night before, go to the conference, then take my mom to see Twilight. Sounds like a simple plan, right? David asked me last night, "So you're gonna go back to work after your meeting? Where is your meeting? On campus here right?" Grrr...uh, no, honey, like I told you the other 41 times...

(3) Not understanding the concept of a "pretty Christmas tree" and a "tacky Christmas tree". Those are two different things. Not to David...

(4) I've underestimated the amount of sports that can be watched at all times of the day/night.

(5) I've also underestimated the overwhelming draw to sports message boards...

(6) Sending him to buy groceries is just not a good idea. Easy Cheez? Really?

And now for some reasons why I appreciate him being here now:

(1) I haven't done the laundry in two months...apparently, me leaving it in the dryer for three days drives him so nuts that he took this task on all by himself.

(2) Trash to the curb? Yeah, haven't done that in a while either.

(3) Any weird noise I used to hear at night when I lived by myself is suddenly gone.

(4) Ever taken two cats to the vet? You can't do that alone.

(5) I actually have a reason to cook a good meal for dinner other than just for leftovers for work.

(6) Someone to kill the spiders that the cats are playing with.

Hair dids.

So I need some shall I do my hair?? My hair lady, Lacey, wants to play with it and I wanted to give her a couple of pictures to work off of for the time being. My hair is pretty long now, and so pretty much any style will long as I don't get too frustrated with it and cut all of this off...! Help??

Grooms Cake Idea

So my friend Joey sent me an idea for the grooms cake...since David and I are such big NASCAR fans, I thought this would be so cute! We'd of course put our favorite drivers' cars on the cake to drive around the track (mine would be WAY ahead of his...). I'm really wanting to stay away from the "house divided" or anything OU for his cake (his request, not mine!) so I thought this would be perfect!

No slideshow...just pics.

Well, it looks like I can't figure out how to convert the dvd to a file that can be uploaded here, so I decided just to put a few baby pics of me and David (couple with our siblings) up. There's three sections to the slide show: family, friends and us. The baby pics of us individually are in the "us" section; with (obviously) family pictures in the "family" part; and lots of old high school and college pics in the "friends" part...I need to add more of David's friends too cause right now, it's the "Kelsey and all her friends" show... :)

I love looking at old pictures cause I really can't believe that I'm going to be 30 soon and all this time has passed...I remember taking some of these can I be this old??

New Initiates...and a slideshow.

Well, the Phi Mus had initiation this past Saturday and initiated 47 new members! The chapter is doing great, and despite what's going on with Theta and hazing and the possibility of losing their charter, Phi Mu is pretty much kicking ass at the be proud, alumnae!

So I'm working on a slide show for the wedding reception...I picked up some baby pictures of David this weekend from his mom, and once I scan those in, I'll be putting the whole thing together. Gotta admit though, the ratio of my baby pics to 300:1...I'm gonna fix that so it's much more proportioned, I promise!

So as soon as I get it figured out, should I go ahead and upload it here or do you want to wait and see it at the reception?

HC '08

Thought I should give everyone a Homecoming '08 update...the Phi Mu house paired with Sigma Chi this year, and with a general theme of "Generation Cowboy", they did a yearbook house dec...and placed third! So for the the 4th time in 5 years, Phi Mu has placed in Homecoming! Quite a record since two of those times were first places! So here's a few pics of it, and the first one is the seniors during All Night Pomp on Thursday night before homecoming and freakin' Mike Gundy stopped by...!!

Abby and Lilly

So Jenny sent me these pictures of my cousins Abby and Lilly and I just couldn't help it, I had to put one of them up. Abby (the oldest, and my junior bridesmaid) is growing up so beautifully, I can hardly stand it. And Lilly, the little troublemaker, just that!

But I love this picture of them together. Abby, since the day she was born, has been my little sidekick, which makes it absolutely necessary for her to be a part of my wedding.

Her 13th birthday will actually be the day after the wedding, so I'm thinking of surprising her with a birthday cake at the reception (hey, turning 13 is a BIG deal!) and having everyone sing to her...I'm sure she'll pretend to be embarrassed, but she's a Johnston...and we like to be the center of attention :)

Flower Girl Dress...and Centerpieces!

Well, I think I've pretty much decided on this dress for the flower girls...just need to see if I can find the pattern or if the lady making them can do it just by looking at the picture (is that even possible??) But I like this one the best, so hopefully, I can have it made or find something really really similar...!

And then these are the centerpieces Jenny and I decided on. She's putting something else in them to line the vases, but I can't remember what it was...oh well. And she's not putting anything in the vases other than the water, white orchid and pink LED light. I LOVE it, and now we're on the look out for these square vases!

STDs...ha ha...Save the Dates...!

Here's our Save the Date cards! I made these a while back when I saw that someone had used their dog in a picture, and I thought, well, I'll just use the kitties! It's Tatumbell on the left, and Allie on the right. It took probably an entire afternoon trying to get them to sit still long enough to take a decent picture (if you're on facebook too, those ridiculous pictures are on there) but they both finally did it, and these are the shots that made the final cut. I debated on putting a picture of me and David on them, but thought I'd do something different than the usual, so here it is!

"I do" in Colorado...

So I thought I'd post some pics from David's sister's wedding this last weekend in Cuchara, Colorado. It was absolutely beautiful, and SO much fun. Definitely drank too many beers in high altitude... :)

This is Rhianna, Emily's flower girl (David and Emily's cousin Tara's daughter) and she has graciously agreed to be our flower girl too (she actually said "yes, thank you" when I asked her...she's so stinkin' cute), which I'm grateful for cause my family and friends were kind of hogging the wedding party stuff, so now we can include David's side thankfully!

This is Emily and Clark leaving the reception...

David and his brother, Matt, and their mom with Emily...

Us before the ceremony...

Just one of the amazing views from our cabin...

Invites and Flower Girls

Thought I'd continue to display all the details of the wedding, so here's some more! This is part of the invites. They are actually hot pink on the outside, then orange on the inside, with this paper acting as a border (kinda hard to explain I just realized...) This is also the design that my cake man is using on the cake (hot pink icing with this design as white fondant).

I'm also trying to decide between two patterns for the flower girl dress. Here's one:

and the other:

The flower girl is my cousin Lily, but only if her mom (Jenny, my florist) wants to have to chase after the little hellion all weekend (she's a little nuts...that's why I like her...)

And Heather told me that Annabelle (whom was just born last Thursday!) could play flowergirl for me too. We'll just put her in a flower covered wagon and have Gus and Carson pull her down the aisle... :)
