Grrrrr to Idiot Flower Lady

So this is a complaining post, so I apologize ahead of time if I seem cranky...

First off, there's this lady on campus here that Joey and I met at the bridal fair last month and she does flowers on the side for weddings (she did my friend Jill's from what I understand). I've already got my cousin Jenny doing mine, but Joey was still needing someone. I also wanted to get a small bouquet made for my bridal pictures, and I thought she would be great to use since she said she was cheap and she's right here.

So I emailed her about ten days ago to see if she would do a hot pink bouquet for me and have it by April 18th. She was going to charge me over $70 for it, so I told her, no, this is just a cheapy little thing I don't really care about, just need it for the pictures. Okay, $60 instead...what? Pretty sure at the bridal fair you said you could do it for $35. But my mom said she'd pay for it, so I said sure.

Yesterday, Joey sent me an email with this lady's estimate for her flowers attached...first off, it clearly says "I know you had a budget of $750, but..." and continues to go on about the flower arrangements and whatnot. With an estimate of "$1175-2000"!! Not only did she give her the widest range possible, but doubled her budget for flowers!

Also when Joey asked her where she got her flowers, she said "I can't tell you." Ummm, what? I asked Jenny about that, and she said that means this lady is getting them from Sam's, which is fine, but why not say so? Oh, it's cause you're jacking up the price so much...

Also yesterday, she sent me a facebook message promoting her business...a facebook message?? Seriously, this is how you run your business?? She touched on the fact that I'm friends with Jill, and she did her wedding, yada yada yada...the part that pisses me off is that she acted as though we had never discussed anything, even though I had already told her my cousin is doing my flowers, I just need a small bouquet for pictures, and this had all occurred just about ten days ago...

So I canceled my bouquet order with her, and Joey is getting estimates from other places.

THE bouquet...!

Jenny and I have finally decided on a bouquet for me, so here it is!

I'm also kind of just realizing how close this is getting...on March 1st it will be one of year of being engaged, and it's really hard to believe this last year has gone by so quickly. Which probably means that the next four months will go by just as fast...

Cake flavors!

So David and I made ourselves sick on 19, yes NINETEEN, cake samples this weekend...but we have decided on the cake flavors:

Grooms cake: cookies n cream
Abby's little birthday cake: pink champagne (SO good, but a little sweet, so if you want to try that one, you'll have to convince my almost 13 year old cousin to let you...good luck with that...!)
Brides cake: bottom layer, raspberry cream; second layer, double fudge; third layer, french vanilla and then the top will be pink champagne also.

That was the most fun I've had with the entire wedding planning process...mainly cause David got to actively participate and voice his opinion...and I got to eat some fabulous cake samples...screw the diet!

Mother/Son Song Help

So David is having a hard time deciding on a song to dance with his mom to at the reception, so I'm asking for YOUR help on this...!

Here's my suggestions:
1. Because you loved me--Celine Dion
2. I know you by heart--Eva Cassidy
3. Glory of Love--Peter Cetera

Maybe a little background would help here too...David's dad died when he was 12, and his mom raised him and his younger brother and sister on her own, sometimes working several jobs at once just to keep the house. She's literally one of the kindest women on the planet, and pretty much any song is going to make her cry (she'll have to make up for the fact that my mother won't shed a tear...!)

So, help?? And if you have any other suggestions, let me know! Thanks!

A List

Just a few more things I've learned while living with David...

1. I don't need to hover in the kitchen when he's cooking...hamburger helper, but still, he's cooking, right? Now granted, he didn't know to drain the hamburger meat once it was cooked, but at one point in time, neither did I, so I'm going to quit distrusting him in my kitch...I mean, OUR kitchen... :)

2. No matter how many times I ask (or tell) him to move my car seat back to its originally position after he drives it, it's not going to happen...

3. He likes to tell me every single detail of his entire day...from what time he woke up to what the gaggle of sorority girls that sat behind him in chemistry class said they did that weekend to the names of machine parts he's working on in some lab, and I have no idea what he's referring to...

4. I got his ring this weekend. And he's already wearing it. He wants "to get used to it", but I think he's just really ready to be married.

5. He listens to the most whack music I've ever heard...and I also realize I'm getting old when my first thought to this was "it's not even music, it's just noise..."

6. He sat through a showing of Twilight on campus last week and didn't complain once that I've already seen it, why would I want to see it again and make him go to it...no, he wanted to talk about what the other books in the series were about and how it moved from this one on.

7. He understands my obsession for a really nice table setting in the dining room. One of the cats jumped up on the table the other night, knocking off a place mat, of which he immediately grabbed and replaced, muttering "oh, your mom is gonna be mad at you..." to the cat...

MORE invite help...

Okay, so I wasn't crazy in love with the first proofs for the invites, so I had them change it up a bit (graphic designers hate designing for other designers, so I'm sure they are quite annoyed with me at the moment, but I'm much much much happier with these choices!) I changed the wording too as it just wasn't doing it for me, and I chose a font I regularly use at work, and this is what they just sent back to me. I like either one actually, but I think I'll let you choose! thanks for the help!

Help with the invites!

So here's my three choices for the inside of the invites...let me know which one you like! The saying is, "Marriage is the ultimate road trip, and we're getting ready to ride. Take it in as we promise to love, honor and ride double." (and pretty sure I'm not going with the last one...)

Mr. and Mrs. Matt Johnston

My brother and his new wife finally got their pictures from their wedding, so here's a few of us from that...

The whole family...

The groom with his seesters...

With his seesters and brothers in law...

I was attempting to do Thriller (at the insistence of best man, Corey...)

Finished invite!

I learned how to make a disco ball yesterday in Illustrator, so I thought I'd add it to the invites...and I did some other tweaking, and now they are done!

Sexy in the City

So I'm working on a joint bachelorette party for my friend Missy and me, and after being quite bored at work yesterday (I had work to do...just didn't want to do it!), I came up with this for the invitations! I'm obviously still working on them, but just thought I'd share!

NEW cake!

The only part of this wedding that has been giving me a stomachache has been the cakes...I was working with a local baker whom I've used many times for parties with his beautifully made cookies and cupcakes...

However, with my many attempts in the last couple of weeks to nail them down for specifics, I have not been able to get a hold of either the baker or his business partner.

So I started pricing some other places. I found this lady in Guthrie, and after discussing with her what I wanted, colors and whatnot, she sent me this picture...

Notice the initials?? I think it was fate that brought this lady to me, so I've canceled my order with the idiot cake guys, and gone with Rosebeary's in Guthrie--and the fact that she's in Guthrie is also pretty special to me cause my grandparents lived there--and I'm so excited now, I can hardly stand it.

She's doing Abby's little cake too, and here's what she's doing for her:

One of the ring bearers...

This is Carson Messer, son of one of my best friends, Laura (Hull) Messer, and one of the ring bearers. I went to Broken Arrow this weekend for a quick visit, and I was greeted with one of the sweetest little boys EVER (he's a year old now, and I hadn't seen him since football season, so he's no longer a baby!) He even gave me a hug...just cause. (I like it when kids like me...!)
