A Damsel in Distress

I do not know how in the world my husband lived for so long without me.

And I'm being ridiculously serious about that fact.

About once a month, I have to come to his rescue.

Normally when he calls me for help, I'm so irritated it takes me a while to get over it, so I did not often find the humor in it to blog about it.

I've turned over a new leaf.

And I have decided to find things humorous, or I will most likely go crazy with irritation.

So "hahahahahahahahaa" to my husband's helplessness...

1) He's notorious for flat tires. And he's not the most "hands on", mechanic, knows-stuff-about-cars type of guy like my dad. So we have had multiple pick him up wherever he is, drive to get a new tire episodes than I care to count. And I'm thinking it may be in the teens by now on how many times this has happened...

2) Remember the last post of leaving his backpack in his classroom? That wasn't the first time that has happened. He called me once because, gasp, he had a flat tire. So I went to pick him up at this remote engineering lab on campus, after 9pm, and by the time we got halfway home...he realized he had left his backpack in the lab, and we had to turn around and go back to get it. Only the doors were locked and no one was around...

3) which brings me to this one. David now works at his aunt and uncle's frozen yogurt shop in Stillwater, and he often closes late at night, doing all the cashing out duties in the office in the back. Last night, he calls me around 11pm to tell me that he left the office, the door shut and now it's locked. With his keys inside. So no way to get home or back into the office.

4) and my most favorites are the ones where his car runs out of gas. A couple of weeks ago, he calls me, while I'm working on my qualifying exams at home, to tell me he's run out of gas...right down the street. Shhheeeeesh.

So again, I'm unsure of how he's lived as long as he has...and I'm afraid I will add to this list shortly.

Not quite like a purse.

I left work early Monday afternoon due to a massive head cold and just in general feeling like whooey...

So that put me being at home when David got home from class.

He barrels through the front door. Tatumbell had been sitting on the chair in the front window, anxiously awaiting his dad's arrival, but with that kind of entrance...well, it sent him running to the back room where I was sitting.

Not realizing that this kind of entrance is not considered normal, I didn't say anything other than "hello."

I notice right away though that he's kind of pissy.

"I left my backpack in class. I have to go back and get it before class tonight."

What? How do you leave a backpack in class??

I asked him this.

"Well...I got in to class. Set it down. Asked the professor if we were meeting there or out at the site for the demonstration. We were, so I left. Without the backpack."

Still not really comprehending, I asked him why, if he knew he was having to drive out to the lab site, why he didn't take the backpack and then leave it in the car to make sure he had it with him...

"It's not like a purse, Kelsey, I don't have to have it on my shoulder all the time. Sheesh."

But you're driving back to campus to get it because you need it for later, right?

So maybe it IS as important as a woman's purse is to her?

"Oh. Maybe."

Maybe. Sheesh.

whew...it looks good.

My Valentine's present finally came in...

And David took it to Hobby Lobby, all by himself, to have it framed...

Considering he's never framed anything other than the occasional beer-induced sweaty boys at a football game picture in a cheap plastic 4x6 frame from Walgreens, I was a bit worried...

But it turned out great! (sorry the picture is a bit blurry...but you get the idea!)

Better Than Roses...

Well, my Greg Burns picture did not arrive in time for Valentine's Day...

So instead, David brought me the biggest bag of Sour Patch Kids I have ever seen to my work...

V-DAY Present...

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I knew I needed to take preemptive action to ensure any gifts my husband bought were not bought in vain...

David had a bad experience with Colonial Florist last Valentine's day, so I told him to just not attempt flower giving.

They are usually over-priced for this "holiday" anyway, and I would rather not have to throw them out in a few days.

(Or clean up the puke from the cat as Allie cannot stay away from fresh flowers...yes, she eats them...)

So with my mother's help, David was steered in the direction of a Greg Burns picture I wanted...

It can be personalized with names and a wedding date, and I LOVE Greg Burns stuff, so I was looking forward to being surprised by this sweet and thoughtful gift...

Except that I think David forgot I handle all the finances and budgeting of the checking account.

And that I have to look at it every single day to ensure we are on track financially...

Because I logged in the other day, and a charge to "GREG BURNS PRINTS" was on the first line...

Sigh...well, at least I won't be throwing it out after a couple of days!

Aunt x 2

While I submerged myself at the library to work on qualifying exams (turned in just now, so yay for being done with those!), we had a busy couple of weeks...enough to distract me quite a bit while working on that paper...

I'm an aunt again! Austin Adam Hightower was born January 21, and he and mama are healthy and doing well.

Family pic! Zach, Kristin and Austin

He's gonna have to be a big OSU fan...

I can't wait to meet the little booger! Congrats Seester!

I also forgot to add one of Harper's newborn pics with Angel Porch...

I love this being an aunt thing...so fun!
